Statement of Lambda Legal, Americans United, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and the County of Santa Clara on Postponement of Denial of Care Rule

In response to the Trump administration’s announcement that the Denial of Care Rule will no longer go into effect on July 22, Lambda Legal, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the Center for Reproductive Rights and the County of Santa Clara issued the following statement.

Victory! Kansas Agrees to Issue Accurate Birth Certificates to Transgender People

Transgender people born in Kansas will now be able to correct the gender marker on their birth certificates under a consent judgment between Lambda Legal and state officials issued Friday evening by a federal court.

The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled that the Oregon Court of Appeals must look again at how the Oregon court system processed the discrimination claim against an Oregon bakery, Sweetcakes by Melissa, and its conclusion that the bakery violated Oregon’s nondiscrimination statutes when they refused to bake a wedding cake for Lambda Legal clients Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, because they said doing so would violate the owners’ religious beliefs.

The Washington Supreme Court today unanimously reaffirmed its February 2017 ruling that a Richland, WA, florist had violated the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD) when she refused to sell flowers to a same-sex couple for their wedding.

County of Santa Clara v. HHS

Lambda Legal, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Center for Reproductive Rights filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “Denial-of-Care” Rule.

Lambda Legal today filed a federal lawsuit to compel the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to release information about their communications with outside organizations and decisions pertaining to the health care and well-being of LGBTQ people, including the alleged suspension of the publication and implementation of LGBTQ nondiscrimination rules and regulations.
