Brett Kavanaugh

Yet another example of the lengths to which this Republican-controlled Senate is prepared to go in order to pack the courts with ideological extremists.

Senator Joe Manchin has failed the test of leadership presented to him today.

Lambda Legal is deeply disappointed by Senator Collins’ (R-ME) announcement that she intends to support Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

We are deeply disappointed that a majority of Senators have agreed to advance Brett Kavanaugh to final vote in the face of so many serious concerns and unanswered questions, but this fight is not over. We continue to hope that there will be other Senators who, like Senator Heidi Heitkamp from North Dakota, will ask themselves what sending this type of devastating message to sexual violence survivors will do to the society they have taken an oath to serve.

The decision by the Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance by a party-line vote the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Senate for a full floor vote is highly disturbing and extremely dangerous.

Through his own words and demeanor, Judge Kavanaugh has demonstrated that he is unfit for a lifetime appointment to the United States Supreme Court.

We applaud Dr. Blasey Ford’s strength and courage.

We salute the courage of Julie Swetnick, who has now become the third woman to subject herself to public scrutiny and ridicule because Senate Republicans and the White House refuse to take allegations of sexual assault seriously.
