Religiously Motivated Discrimination

Mississippi legislators and Gov. Bryant have ignored the voices of reason and responsibility and have exposed many already terribly vulnerable in the state to yet more discrimination, abuse and violence.

We expect the ACLU’s and Lambda Legal’s Legal Help Desks will light up with calls from those who suffer discrimination imposed by this law, and we stand ready to help.

HB 2 unfairly sets its sight on transgender students, using fear to keep these children from being able to use the restrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity and having safe and affirming environments to learn.

Today, Simone Bell, Lambda Legal Regional Director and former Georgia state representative, attended the Georgia Unites Against Discrimination rally against anti-LGBT bills that encourage discrimination. She delivered remarks on the steps of the capitol:

Recently, as these election-year LGBT-bashing bills have proliferated, some gay bloggers and reporters have started asking what members of the community also must be wondering: Are our LGBT organizations prepared to deal with this unprecedented level of legislative and ballot attacks? Lambda Legal has been preparing steadily during the past three years and implementing strategies to fight back and win. At the same time, we know our opponents are well-funded and determined, and winning will not be easy.

Members of the Indiana Senate Judiciary and Rules committees are set to hear on Wednesday three bills that are harmful to LGBT Hoosiers — and we need your help to stop these bills from advancing.

Lambda Legal today called for the Indiana Senate Judiciary and Rules Committees to vote down SB 100, SB 344 and SB 66, three bills which would enshrine discrimination and deliver a devastating blow to LGBT Hoosiers.
