Lambda Legal Affirms Commitment to LGBTQ Student Rights in the Wake of Tragic Suicides

(New York, April 27 2009) — Lambda Legal today issued the following statement in response to the tragic suicides of Jaheem Herrera of Dekalb County, Georgia, and Carl Joseph Walker–Hoover, of Springfield, Massachusetts, both 11–year–olds who faced antigay harassment and bullying.

Lambda Legal Files Federal Antigay Bias Lawsuit Against Upstate New York School District on Behalf of Student and Her Brother

(Philadelphia, NY April 8, 2009) — Lambda Legal, with the assistance of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, filed a lawsuit today at the US District Court for the Northern District of New York on behalf of Charlie Pratt, who endured years of antigay harassment during his time at Indian River High School, and his sister, Ashley Petranchuk, a sophomore who is trying to start a gay–straight alliance at the same high school years after her brother left.

California Supreme Court Grants Review In Prop 8 Legal Challenges

(San Francisco, California, November 19, 2008) — Today the California Supreme Court granted review in the legal challenges to Proposition 8, which passed by a narrow margin of 52 percent on November 4. In an order issued today, the Court agreed to hear the case and set an expedited briefing schedule. The Court also denied an immediate stay.

Connecticut Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Marriage Equality for Same-Sex Couples: Lambda Legal Celebrates
