(New Brunswick, NJ, September 26, 2007)—Lambda Legal Marriage Project Director, David Buckel who was lead attorney on the Lewis v. Harris marriage equality lawsuit in New Jersey and clients from the recent UPS matter will provide testimony tonight at the New Jersey Civil Union Review Commission hearing in New Brunswick.
"Lambda Legal has worked long and hard to bring marriage equality for same-sex couples to New Jersey and we're seeing first hand how civil unions are falling short," said David Buckel, Marriage Project Director at Lambda Legal, which has received over 100 calls for help from civil union couples. "The reality is that the state has marked same-sex couples as inferior members of our community—undeserving of marriage—and that can't be measured by simply counting the number of calls we get. It's an ugly stain that everyone understands and only the New Jersey Legislature can erase it."
