"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" may be gone, but discrimination isn't. The armed forces still treat married lesbian and gay service members and their families differently than it treats all other married military couples and their families. That's because the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) prevents the federal government from recognizing legal marriages of same-sex couples, depriving them and their families of crucial legal protections.
