Lambda Legal Community Educator and filmmaker Marco Castro-Bojorquez was honored as a Champion of Change at a White House event yesterday that recognized individuals using art to make a difference in the lives of LGBT people.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Marco, whose film is an incredible tool that will help change hearts and minds in families across the country,” said Kevin Cathcart, Executive Director of Lambda Legal. “The film lifts up the voices of immigrant fathers and their sons and, in so doing, enriches us all.”
Castro-Bojorquez last year released the film El canto del colibrí (The Hummingbird’s Song), a documentary about Latino immigrant fathers and their LGBTQ children. The film explores issues of family acceptance and immigration that Castro-Bojorquez also addresses in his Lambda Legal work as a community educator. Lambda Legal is a sponsor of the film.
“I made my new documentary because some families of color lack the resources to understand their children’s journey as they come out of the closet or transition,” said Castro-Bojorquez.
