Lambda Legal Urges Federal Court to Reject Gay Defamation Claim

(New York, March 13, 2009) — Today at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Lambda Legal filed a brief arguing that the Court should reject Howard K. Stern's claim that being called gay is defamatory per se and entitles him to collect damages.

Following Attorney General Investigation, Arizona-based Antigay Adoption Service Stops Business in New York: Lambda Legal's Clients Vindicated

(New York, March 4, 2009) — In an announcement issued today by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the antigay Arizona-based Adoption Profiles, LLC and Adoption Media, LLC stopped doing business in New York.


The Attorney General's announcement follows a complaint filed by Lambda Legal on behalf of a New York gay couple barred from posting their on-line adoptive-parent profile by the companies in question solely because they are a same-sex couple. Adoption Profiles, LLC and Adoption Media, LLC were violating New York laws prohibiting such discrimination.

Michigan Appeals Court Says Trial Court Cannot Refuse to Hear Lesbian Mother's Custody Case

(Detroit, MI, February 20, 2009) — The Michigan State Court of Appeals yesterday held that a Michigan family court cannot refuse to hear a child custody case simply because it involves children whose parents are lesbians, ruling that there is no gay exception to Michigan's child custody laws.

Lambda Legal Joins First Amendment Case Against Birmingham Mayor

First New York Appellate Court to Approve State Recognition of Out-of-State Marriages for Same-Sex Couples in Lambda Legal's Case

(New York, January 22, 2009) — The New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, Third Department today upheld a lower court's ruling that the New York State Department of Civil Service (DCS), a state agency, acted in compliance with the law when it confirmed that it would recognize out–of–state marriages of same–sex couples. This was the first Appellate Court ruling in New York to address the Paterson administration's recognition of these marriages.
