This brief filed in support of California Attorney General Bill Lockyer defends the language the defendant used when placing a California amendment to bar marriage to same-sex couples on the election-day ballot. The defendant's language made clear that the initiative would have clear anti-gay consequences and was not simply an amendment to "protect" marriage and falls fully within his discretion to name and explain ballot measures as attorney general.
