Momentum Comes From You

At Lambda Legal, we have been talking a lot about momentum - the wave of energy that has carried us so far forward this year, and that has set the stage for the important work we are prepared to do in 2014.

But during this holiday season, another important word comes to mind – together. We have come this far together, and we need to stand together to keep moving forward. Momentum is great – and it comes from all of you.

We started out this year celebrating Lambda Legal’s 40th anniversary, and moved ahead in our fight for transgender rights, youth in schools, parents and children, the rights of people with HIV, and of course, marriage. We celebrated historic victories in the Supreme Court, then turned south to file two new marriage equality cases in Virginia and West Virginia. We ended our 40th anniversary year with joyous marriage victories in New Jersey, Hawai'i and Illinois. It has been quite a time!

2013 Timeline: A Year of Moving Equality Forward

At Lambda Legal, we are proud – and we are also grateful. Across the country, we find friends, supporters, activists, partners and allies who stand up, speak out, take risks, and support our work. Lambda Legal is involved in over 80 cases in 30 states plus the District of Columbia, and we thank our courageous plaintiffs in all these matters who are fighting back against discrimination.

This is no time to slow down or let up – there are too many LGBT people and people with HIV living in states where there are few legal protections and the fight for equality, safety and basic dignity is a daily challenge.  We have a vision of equality for everyone, everywhere – and we don’t plan to stop until we get there.

But, as the year comes to a close, this is a time to pause to say "thank you." Momentum comes from all of us, working together. From our Lambda Legal family to each of you, we wish you a happy, safe and healthy holiday season, and we join together in wishing – and working – for a new year with greater justice and equality for all.
