Lambda Legal Tyron Garner Fellow, Aisha N. Davis and Skadden Fellow Kara Ingelhart have been named Windy City Times 30 Under 30 honorees.
The honor is awarded to thirty LGBTQ individuals and their allies 30 years of age or younger who have made substantial contributions to the LGBTQ community in the Chicagoland area.
From Jim Bennett, Midwest Regional Director of Lambda Legal:
Being honored as a 30 Under 30 is a special recognition reserved for the most promising and inspiring young LGBT leaders in Chicago, Aisha Davis and Kara Ingelhart embody the spirit of this award.
Both are talented and passionate advocates and Lambda Legal and our movement have been so fortunate to have them. These are two bright and energetic lawyers and they will do amazing things.
Named after the late Lambda Legal plaintiff from the landmark case, Lawrence v. Texas, the Tyron Garner Memorial Fellowship for African-American LGBT Civil Rights is a special position created to encourage and mentor young lawyers dedicated to LGBT issues within African-American communities to become engaged in civil rights work on behalf of LGBT individuals and people living with HIV.
The Garner Fellowship contributes to Lambda Legal’s work to serve communities of color and address the intersection of LGBT discrimination, racism and poverty.
Established in 1988, the Skadden Fellowship program awards two year fellowships to graduating law students to pursue public service legal projects. Fellows design their projects along with the public interest organization of their choice.
The aim of the foundation is to give fellows the freedom to pursue public interest work. At Lambda Legal, Ingelhart focuses on the collateral effects of a juvenile or criminal record facing LGBTQ youth.
