On Friday, September 22, Lambda Legal will honor Krisztina Inskeep at its Indiana Benefit, the largest annual LGBTQ civil rights event in the state. Every year, Lambda Legal gives special honors to a leader whose work advances the civil rights for LGBTQ people and everyone living with HIV in the Hoosier state.

This year Lambda Legal is proud to honor Krisztina Inskeep with the Indiana Benefit’s 2017 Leadership Award.

“We are excited to honor someone who has worked tirelessly, in Indianapolis and alongside Lambda Legal’s statewide and national efforts, to support and protect LGBTQ young people,” said Christopher Clark, Midwest Regional Director of Lambda Legal. “Krisztina Inskeep is a powerful and fearless advocate making Indiana a kinder and safer place for all LGBTQ people and their families."

"With compelling honesty and passion, she has shared her experience as the mother of a transgender child with other parents and community members as well as before political leaders who have considered legislation and policies that would hurt LGBTQ people and families," Clark added. "We believe her leadership saves lives and strengthens our community. Krisztina expanded her mother’s love for her transgender son and family into powerful activism and support for LGBTQ youth and families. Her advocacy epitomizes the heart and spirit of our movement.”

Recognizing the need for support of families with transgender and gender non-conforming children in the Indianapolis area, Ms. Inskeep co-founded Gender Expansive Kids and Company (GEKCO), a support group where parents and children can find community, resources and camaraderie.

She has been a longtime volunteer and board member with Indiana Youth Group (IYG), Indiana’s service and support organization for LGBTQ young people, where she serves as co-chair for IYG’s $2.6M capital campaign to renovate a larger, more accessible facility with expanded programming for youth in Indianapolis.

As a parent and longtime advocate, Ms. Inskeep has fought against bills and policies aiming to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people and transgender people in particular: alongside Lambda Legal, she was active voice for Freedom Indiana, making the case for inclusive state-wide legal protections; she was outspoken against the Trump administration’s rescission of Department of Education guidelines affirming the right of transgender students to be seen and respected for who they truly are; and, she remains vocal against the proposed ban on transgender people serving openly in the military.

Lambda Legal honors Ms. Inskeep in a critical time for transgender Americans. In a year when transgender youth and adults have been targeted by harmful legislation and singled out for discrimination at the highest levels of government, Lambda Legal honors Ms. Inskeep for her work to uplift families and empower LGBTQ young people.
