IRS to Recognize All Married Same-Sex Couples

This is the news we’ve all been hoping for. The policy issued today by the U.S. Treasury makes clear that all legally married same-sex couples no matter where they live will be treated as married for all federal tax purposes. The ruling applies whether a couple lives in a state that respects their marriage or in a state that continues to discriminate against them.

We’re very pleased that the rule is uniform throughout the country. The new policy will bring clarity to same-sex couples throughout the nation and to their employers.
