At Lambda Legal's annual Lawrence Breakfast in Houston tomorrow, the Walker County Honorary Committee will honor Lambda Legal with their James E. Chaney Freedom Prize.
The committee was established in 1963 in Dora, Ala., to honor persons and organizations who have made valuable contributions to the good of humanity and the betterment of the community. The James E. Chaney Freedom Prize, one of seven the committee awards each year, is named for one of the three civil rights activists murdered in Philadelphia, Miss., in 1964.
“This is an honor for us, to know that Lambda Legal’s continuing fight for full equality for LGBT individuals and families resonates not just in New York and Chicago and Los Angeles, but also in Walker County, Alabama,” said Lambda Legal South Central Regional Director Roger Poindexter. “I am proud to accept this on Lambda Legal’s behalf.”
