Nine years after the historic Supreme Court decision in Lambda Legal’s case Lawrence v. Texas, the biggest victory for LGBT rights is back in the news, and we want to make sure you know all about it.

When the Court decided Lawrence in 2003, it was the most significant legal breakthrough in the fight for equality. Today Lawrence is part of the DNA of nearly a decade’s worth of legal victories for LGBT individuals. The ruling struck down all remaining state anti-sodomy laws, and paved the way for dramatic advancements that changed America’s legal landscape forever, from marriage equality to the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

A new book about Lawrence has brought Lambda Legal’s biggest victory back into the spotlight. Flagrant Conduct: The Story of Lawrence v. Texas: How a Bedroom Arrest Decriminalized Gay Americans, by University of Minnesota law professor Dale Carpenter, is on the cover of the New York Times Book Review and is capturing attention across the country.

Learn more about Lawrence v. Texas and Lambda Legal’s successful strategy. Watch our 17-minute documentary called Overruled! featuring an interview with defendant John Lawrence and the lawyers who argued the case.

Lawrence v. Texas made history and made our laws and our lives better. We have a lot more work to do. I hope we can continue to count on your support to keep our lawyers in court, making the case for equality.
