Same-Sex Couples in Lambda Legal and ACLU Marriage Cases Win Day in Court

Today a judge denied motions to dismiss our cases seeking the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Illinois. We’re going to have our day in court to fight for dignity and equality for the 25 plaintiff couples represented in the lawsuits brought by Lambda Legal and the ACLU.

Today, the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division, heard oral arguments in a motion seeking to dismiss Darby v. Orr and Lazarro v. Orr, Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Illinois’ lawsuits seeking marriage for same-sex couples in Illinois.

At the close of the legislative session today, the Illinois House of Representatives did not call for a floor vote or advance the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act, the bill that would grant same-sex couples in Illinois the freedom to marry. This is a stunning failure in the Illinois House.
