U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this month issued expanded guidelines on the treatment of transgender immigrants currently detained in ICE facilities.
Lambda Legal marked May 1st, International Worker’s Day, with a call for supporting efforts to bring visibility to LGBT immigrants, especially those who are undocumented. Francisco Dueñas, Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Proyecto Igualdad, and Carmina Ocampo, Lambda Legal’s lead attorney on immigrants’ rights issues, issued the following statement:
Lambda Legal joined other LGBT and civil rights organizations to strongly urge President Obama not to exclude long-resident LGBT individuals from the forthcoming program of administrative relief to protect from deportation some of the nation’s population.
Lambda Legal called on members of Congress to turn away from the fatally flawed, piecemeal approach to immigration reform of bills like H.R. 5230, widely criticized for purporting to promote border security instead of addressing the humanitarian needs of immigrant youth on the border.
Lambda Legal has signed on to a petition asking for just treatment of asylum seekers in the United States, and we need your help.
