Lambda Legal published an analysis of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) new rule, issued earlier in the day, creating a new unit within the HHS Office of Civil Rights (OCR) called the “Conscience and Religious Freedom Division.”
Lambda Legal has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the Oregon Court of Appeals in a case of an Oregon bakery that refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.
“All I want is to use the appropriate restroom, in peace, just like everyone else. It’s humiliating that this law separates me from my peers and treats me like a second-class citizen,” said Joaquín Carcaño, 28, a UNC-Chapel Hill employee and transgender man who is the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit.
