Today Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley and Rhode Island Representative David Cicilline, together with lead co-sponsors Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), introduced the Equality Act, a bill to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, credit, education, and jury service.

New York State Governor Cuomo Acts to Remove Juveniles from State Prisons

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that he will issue an executive order to remove 16- and 17-year-olds from state prisons, moving them instead to separate facilities under the supervision of the Department of Corrections and the Office of Children and Family Services. The Governor made this announcement during an end-of-session press conference, where he discussed a tentative legislative agreement on a number of outstanding issues.

Nevada Revises Foster Care Regulations to Remove Automatic Exclusion of People Living with HIV

In response to an appeal from Lambda Legal, the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has revised its regulations concerning licensing prospective foster parents to remove a requirement that foster parents be free of a list of communicable diseases that included HIV.
