For transgender students nationwide, last month may have seemed bleak. Court decisions handed down in Texas and North Carolina on the rights of transgender students to use the correct restrooms were a bit confusing, to say the least. Today the New York State Court of Appeals ruled that non-biological, non-married, non-adoptive parents can seek custody and visitation of children who were born into their relationships with the consent of the child’s biological parent.

A federal court today granted a request to stop the University of North Carolina from enforcing H.B. 2, the state law that bans many transgender people from restrooms that match their gender identity, against three transgender individuals who are challenging the law in court.
