Fifth Circuit Unleashes Anti-LGBT Mississippi Law: Legal Team Will Continue Fight

(Jackson, June 22, 2017) — Today, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the injunction against Mississippi House Bill 1523, the discriminatory anti-LGBT legislation challenged in Barber v. Bryant, the federal lawsuit brought by Mississippi civil rights attorney Robert McDuff, the Mississippi Center for Justice and Lambda Legal.  The advocates will continue to fight this discriminatory law.

Lambda Legal Celebrates Key Victory Affirming LGBT Rights in Flower Shop Discrimination Case

(Seattle, Washington, February 16, 2016) –The Washington Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling rejecting an attempt to create an LGBT exception to Washington State’s non-discrimination law. The court unanimously rejected the arguments of a florist who refused on religious grounds to sell flowers to a same-sex couple for their wedding.

Today we feel very fortunate that LGBT people and people with living with HIV were spared from the terrible consequences of HB 757.

We cannot replace a bad bill with another bad bill. And this bill is very bad. It invites discrimination and encourages lawsuits. It is targeted at the LGBT community, but will sweep in others.
