Lambda Hires Midwest Regional Director for Chicago Office

Lambda Board Elects New Co-Chairs and Members

(NEW YORK, February 16, 1999) -- The nation's oldest and largest legal organization for lesbians, gay men, and people with HIV and AIDS announced Tuesday the election of new co-chairs, officers and members for its board of directors.

Cynthia H. Hyndman, a partner with the Chicago law firm Robinson Curley & Clayton, and Donald M. Millinger, a partner with the Philadelphia law firm Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers, took the helm as co-chairs of Lambda's 29-member board at its February meeting in Los Angeles.

Lambda Adds Firepower

Intervention Rights — and Wrongs

Intervention is an important litigation tool that allows one to become a party to a lawsuit brought by others. It has significant advantages over filing an amicus curiae brief in that, unlike an amicus, an intervenor usually has a right to conduct discovery, bring motions, present oral argument and evidence, and appeal. But, in order to be entitled to intervene, one generally has to have, at minimum, a direct and immediate interest in the litigation.

Lambda Legal Helps Convince Board to Reverse Decision Banning Gay Rowing Competition at Crystal Lake

(Chicago, March 8, 2006) — Last night, Crystal Lake Park District Board voted to allow the Gay Games to hold its rowing competition at Crystal Lake, reversing an earlier denial of permission. Lambda Legal staff attorney, Jim Madigan, testified before the Board on behalf of the Gay Games, arguing that the Illinois Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the use of public accommodations such as Crystal Lake.

IRS Again Backs Down on Anti-Gay Discrimination

(NEW YORK, May 5, 1998) Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said Tuesday that its victory on behalf of a lesbian organization seeking tax-exempt status marked the second time in recent months the IRS has had to back down on its efforts to interfere with the mission of a gay community group.
