Married Same-Sex Couples Receive Many Federal Benefits, but Other Critical Protections Remain Out of Reach: Lambda Legal’s Work Continues

(New York, June 20, 2014)—Today the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a report recounting extensive recognition of same-sex spouses for purposes of federal benefits.  But the DOJ asserts that access for married same-sex couples and survivors living in states that deny recognition to their marriages to some of the most critical benefits offered by the Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs will require legislative action.

Victory! Iowa Supreme Court Reverses Conviction in Lambda Legal HIV Criminalization Case

(Des Moines, IA, June 13, 2014) — Today the Iowa Supreme Court set aside the conviction of Nick Rhoades, an HIV-positive Iowan who was initially sentenced to 25 years in prison, with required registration as a sex offender, after having a one-time sexual encounter with another man during which they used a condom.

Lambda Legal Files Complaint for Anti-LGBT Slur On Restaurant Receipt
