New Jersey's Highest Court Soon Will Rule on Boy Scouts' Anti-Gay Ban

(NEW YORK, June 21, 1999) -- While marking the 30th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund also awaits what could be another history-making event -- an upcoming ruling in its case challenging the anti-gay policy of the Boy Scouts of America on behalf of James Dale, the exemplary Eagle Scout thrown out of scouting solely because he is gay.

Lambda Legal Sues New York Department of Civil Service Seeking Benefits for Spouses of Gay and Lesbian State Employees

(New York, July 26, 2005) — In court papers made public today in state court in Nassau County, Lambda Legal named the New York State Department of Civil Service as a defendant in its case against Uniondale Union Free School District for refusing to extend spousal medical benefits to a retired gay couple who were legally married in Canada last year.

Supreme Court Set to Decide What Constitutes 'Disability' Under ADA

(NEW YORK, June 9, 1999) -- Federal civil rights for people with disabilities will be tested when the United States Supreme Court issues three much-anticipated rulings about the reach of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said Wednesday.

California Supreme Court Rules That Businesses Cannot Discriminate Against Domestic Partners

(San Francisco, August 1, 2005)—In a ruling issued today in a case argued by Lambda Legal, the California Supreme Court said that if businesses in California provide benefits to married couples they must also extend them on equal terms to same-sex couples who are registered domestic partners.

Gay Dad Fights to Continue Seeing His Kids Without Restrictions

(NEW YORK, September 3, 1998) -- Next week, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund will argue against an appeal that seeks to have Maryland's highest court reinstate a stringent, anti-gay visitation order limiting contact between two children, their divorced father, and his partner.

The Maryland Court of Appeals will hear arguments in Boswell v. Boswell on Wednesday, September 9. Lambda Cooperating Attorney and American University law professor Nancy Polikoff will argue on Robert Glenn Boswell's behalf.
