(Washington, DC) Today the attorneys general of 17 states and the District of Columbia joined Lambda Legal to urge the U.S. Supreme Court to decide once and for all whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects LGBT individuals from discrimination on the job.

(Washington, October 11, 2017) – Today 76 businesses, legal scholars and the nation’s leading LGBT rights organizations joined Lambda Legal in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to finally decide whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits sexual orientation discrimination on the job.

(Denver, CO, October 10, 2017) – Lambda Legal returned to federal court today on behalf of Dana Zzyym, an intersex citizen and U.S. Navy veteran denied a passport because the U.S. State Department refuses to recognize a gender marker that is neither male nor female.

(Jackson, October 10, 2017) —Mississippi plaintiffs led by civil rights attorney Rob McDuff, along with Mississippi Center for Justice and Lambda Legal, today urged the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down Mississippi House Bill 1523, the discriminatory anti-LGBT legislation that takes effect today. Joining in the appeal to the Supreme Court are former U.S. Solicitor General Don Verrilli and attorney Paul Smith, who co-counseled with Lambda Legal and argued the landmark case of Lawrence v. Texas, which declared laws criminalizing same-sex relationships to be unconstitutional.

Washington, DC – Today, Lambda Legal and more than 60 national, state, and local LGBT groups from across the country urged the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to reject the nomination of Eric S. Dreiband to serve as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Dept. of Justice.

Mississippi civil rights attorney Rob McDuff, along with Mississippi Center for Justice and Lambda Legal, today announced they will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit denied their en banc petition asking the full court to rehear the case challenging Mississippi House Bill 1523, one of the most anti-LGBT laws in the country.

Washington, DC – Lambda Legal today applauded U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison for introducing a House Resolution that calls for increased attention to the violence and discrimination faced by transgender women of color and the creation of better policies and practices to protect transgender Americans.  

(New York, September 26, 2017) —Today, Lambda Legal argued before the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, supporting the estate of Donald Zarda, a New York skydiving instructor who was fired from his job because he was gay.

(Chicago, IL, September 25, 2017)—Lambda Legal announced today the addition of Jamie Gliksberg to the organization as a staff attorney in its Midwest Regional Office, located in Chicago. Gliksberg comes to Lambda Legal from Steptoe & Johnson and previously, Sidley Austin. She has experience in a variety of civil rights matters, including advocacy on behalf of prisoners, immigrant victims of violent crime, and asylum seekers, including individuals seeking relief from persecution in their home countries on the basis of their LGBT status.
