As Hobby Lobby, the recent non-decision in Zubik and the cascade of state-level discriminatory and distortive religious exemption bills demonstrate, the federal RFRA law absolutely needs this clarification.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of North Carolina, and Lambda Legal today asked a federal court to order an immediate halt to enforcement of a North Carolina law that targets transgender people for discrimination in single-sex facilities.

(May 13, 2016, New York, NY) – The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today finalized new rules confirming that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are protected against health care discrimination under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act.

(Washington, D.C., May 10, 2016) –Late yesterday, Lambda Legal and Transgender Law Center, with co-counsel WilmerHale, petitioned with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to change the rule that categorically excludes transition-related surgery for transgender veterans. The petition was filed on behalf of two individual veterans, Dee Fulcher and Gio Silva, and a group representing transgender veterans, the Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA).

RALEIGH – The U.S. Department of Justice today notified North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory that HB 2, the sweeping anti-LGBT law that prevents transgender students, employees, and visitors from using restrooms that correspond to their gender identity, has placed the state in violation of Title VII of the U.S. Civil Rights Act, Title IX, and the Violence Against Women Act.

(Chicago, IL, May 3, 2016)—Today, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) announced new guidelines aimed at providing a more inclusive and welcoming environment for transgender students, employees and adults, including specific language establishing that transgender people have equal access to the facilities that correspond to their gender identity.
