Lambda Legal Applauds Court, Same-Sex Couples Will Continue To Receive Marriage Certificates in San Francisco

(New York, Friday, February 13, 2004) - Lambda Legal today issued the following statement from Jon Davidson, Senior Counsel in its Western Regional Office in Los Angeles, about the San Francisco hearing on the issuing of marriage licenses to same-sex couples and performing marriages:

"This is a Valentine's Day weekend for the history books. The long lines outside city offices all day today show that lesbian and gay couples need the protections marriage provides. We celebrate their weddings this weekend, and we vow to stand with these couples in the weeks and months ahead to preserve their marriages and support the city government continuing to extend equal benefits to same-sex couples. The city is trying to protect people's constitutional rights, and we will defend that vigorously in court."
