"The state House of Representatives voted to create a domestic partnership registry for same-sex couples Tuesday, sending Gov. Chris Gregoire the historic measure on a mostly party line vote.
"'I would say this is historic because it is Washington's first step toward providing statewide recognition for same-sex couples, and some of the basic protections that they deserve under the law,' said Tara Borelli, staff attorney for Lambda Legal, a national nonprofit group that advocates for the civil rights of gays, lesbians and bisexuals."
