The Veterans Administration recently announced they are considering whether to remove the categorical exclusion for transition-related health care from their medical benefits package. They have opened up the rule change for public comment, giving supporters of trans people's rights a chance to speak out against discrimination.
The VA is tracking the total number of individual comments, and it will be important for them to see a strong showing of support for transgender veterans. Unfortunately, at the moment, many of the comments that are being posted are uninformed, and extremely negative. We could use your help.
Please take a moment to make your voice heard. Stand up for transgender veterans' rights to equal access to health care.
Here are some examples of comments that would be helpful:
- The VA’s exclusion is hurting veterans who have served their country.
- All eligible veterans deserve medically necessary care.
- It is wrong to single out any group of veterans to deny medical care.
- In some cases, denying veterans' care puts their lives at risk.
- Medical decisions should be made by medical professionals based on current standards of care.
Please comment, and share widely.
Thank you so much for your support!
