On World AIDS Day Lambda Legal Renews Pledge to Fight

(New York, November 28, 2007) — This World AIDS Day, December 1, 2007, Lambda Legal joins the National Black Gay Men's Advocacy Coalition and the National Coalition for LGBT Health in calling on our nation's LGBT organizations to place an aggressive response to the HIV epidemic at the center of their agendas.

Lambda Legal Files Appeal in Case Charging Federal Government with HIV Discrimination: Lawsuit Against Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Behalf of Man Denied Job for HIV Status

(Washington, D.C., December 5, 2005) — Today Lambda Legal will file its opening brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in a lawsuit on behalf of a man who was denied employment as a Foreign Service Officer by the U.S. State Department because he is HIV positive.

U.S. State Department Illegally Discriminates Against Foreign Service Applicants with HIV, Lambda Legal Will Argue at Federal Court Hearing Friday

(Washington, D.C., February 24, 2005) — The United States Department of State illegally prohibits anyone with HIV from being hired as a Foreign Service Officer, regardless of the applicant's qualifications or health status, Lambda Legal will argue in federal court Friday. In Lambda Legal's federal lawsuit seeking to remove the ban on Foreign Service applicants with HIV, leading health experts have filed papers supporting a medically justified approach for assessing Foreign Service applicants.

Lambda Legal Sends Open Letter to Governor Corzine on Anniversary of New Jersey Supreme Court Decision in Marriage Equality Lawsuit

(Trenton, New Jersey, October 22, 2007) — As the anniversary of the decision in Lambda Legal's marriage equality lawsuit approaches, the organization sent a letter to Governor Corzine, Senate President Codey and Speaker Roberts urging them to pass a marriage equality bill.

Lambda Legal Announces Hire of Two Staff Attorneys to National Headquarters

(New York, October 17, 2007) — Lambda Legal announces the hire of two new attorneys, Flor Bermudez and Tom Ude, to its national headquarters in New York.

Lambda Legal Urges Ithaca City School District to Retract Its Stance on New York Human Rights Law

(New York, October 18, 2007) — In an effort to persuade the Ithaca City School District to abandon its stance that the New York Human Rights Law does not apply to public schools, Lambda Legal today sent school board members a letter critiquing the board's argument and explaining the potential harm the board's position could cause.

"The human rights law is the only effective law that expressly addresses antigay discrimination in New York Schools," said Hayley Gorenberg, Deputy Legal Director at Lambda Legal. Attacking it jeopardizes LGBT students."

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Property Tax Relief for Domestic Partners

(Sacramento, October 15, 2007) — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday signed legislation that will provide relief to domestic partners who paid unexpected, discriminatory property taxes prior to Jan. 1, 2006.


The Fair and Equal Taxation for Surviving Partners Act, authored by Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego, drafted by Lambda Legal, and sponsored by Equality California, ends tax increases for domestic partners who separated or lost a partner before a 2006 law went into effect protecting them against unfair property reassessments.

Lambda Legal Responds to Representative Barney Frank

(New York, October 4, 2007) — Prompted by a press release issued late yesterday from Rep. Barney Frank's office, earlier today Lambda Legal sent an open letter to Rep. Frank further explaining the shortfalls in the most recent version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
