Arkansans Urge Supreme Court to Keep Government Out of Their Bedrooms

(NEW YORK, October 30, 2001) — Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, on behalf of seven Arkansas lesbians and gay men, is urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to strike down the state’s archaic ban on intimate relations between consenting adults of the same sex.


In its legal brief filed Monday, Lambda argues that it is wrong for the government to single out gay people with a criminal law it does not apply to non-gay people and to try to dictate highly intimate, personal relationships.

Goldstein Perdue v. Mississippi State Board of Health

(ATLANTA, October 25, 2001) — Mississippi is refusing to issue a birth certificate to a 4-year-old boy, punishing him solely because he has been adopted by a lesbian couple. The refusal means that the child has no legal document to prove his name, the names of his parents, and his date and place of birth.

Lambda Welcomes Two New Board Members

(NEW YORK, Tuesday, October 23, 2001) — Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund announced Tuesday the addition of two dynamic and seasoned businesswomen to its board of directors.

Jennifer Cast, a vice president and general manager at Seattle-based Amazon.com, and Cathy Halligan, director of the San Francisco-based branding firm, Prophet, were elected during Lambda’s recent board meeting in Chicago. Both women add an abundance of business leadership experience to Lambda’s board.
