(Trenton, August 15, 2013) — Today, in one of the first major court challenges since the demise of Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the New Jersey Superior Court granted Lambda Legal’s motion for summary judgment in its case seeking marriage equality on behalf of Garden State Equality, New Jersey’s statewide LGBT advocacy organization, and six same-sex couples who seek the freedom to marry.

The Supreme Court of New Jersey issued a 3-3 ruling today against a motion seeking marriage equality filed by Lambda Legal on behalf of plaintiffs in the original Lewis v. Harris lawsuit.

"Cindy Meneghin and Maureen Kilian of Butler, who marked their 35th anniversary together last August, also were plaintiffs in the 2002 Lewis v. Harris lawsuit that led to the civil union law in 2006.
