"In April, the Iowa Supreme Court handed down a unanimous ruling on Varnum v. Brien: Banning gay couples from marrying violates the state's constitution.
"The ruling made Iowa the third state to legalize same-sex marriage. Since then, three more states have done so.
(New York, April 27, 2009) — Lambda Legal today issued the following statement on the first day that marriage licenses are being issued to same-sex couples in Iowa.

(Des Moines, April 3, 2009) — Today the Iowa Supreme Court upheld a 2007 district court ruling that said it was unconstitutional to bar same-sex couples from marrying. Iowa becomes the third state along with Massachusetts and Connecticut in offering marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Writing for the unanimous court, Justice Cady said:
(Des Moines, December 9, 2008) — Today the Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Lambda Legal's case on behalf of six Iowa same-sex couples and their families who are seeking the right to marry.
(Des Moines, October 3, 2008) — Today the Iowa Supreme Court announced that it will hear oral arguments on Tuesday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. in Lambda Legal's lawsuit seeking marriage equality for same-sex couples in Iowa.
Each side will be allotted 30 minutes to present their side.
(Des Moines, Iowa, August 25, 2008) — August 31 will mark the one year anniversary of the first marriage of a same-sex couple in Iowa after Lambda Legal's victory in which a district court ruled that barring same-sex couples from marriage is unconstitutional.
