(New York, August 18, 2009) — After over twenty years of barring people living with HIV from traveling or immigrating to the United States, the federal government is one step closer to getting this baseless, discriminatory law off the books, according to comments submitted yesterday by Lambda Legal to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

(Little Rock, Ark., August 10, 2009) — A U.S. District Court judge today denied a motion by Fox Ridge, a North Little Rock assisted living facility, to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Lambda Legal on behalf of Robert Franke, a retired minister with HIV.

The ruling by Judge Garnett Thomas Eisele of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas clears the way for the case to proceed.

(San Francisco, June 11, 2009) — Today the California Supreme Court unanimously ruled that California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act does not impose extra legal hurdles for people with disabilities, including people living with HIV who seek damages for discrimination.

(Little Rock, Ark., May 12, 2009) — Lambda Legal announced today that it has filed suit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas against Fox Ridge of North Little Rock, an assisted living facility. 

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 75–year–old Reverend Dr. Robert Franke, a retired university provost and Unitarian-Universalist minister, and his daughter, Sara Franke Bowling.

(Milwaukee, WI, February 12, 2009) — Lambda Legal filed a federal lawsuit today in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin on behalf of Melody Rose, a 35-year-old Wisconsin woman who was denied surgery to remove her gallbladder because she has HIV.

(New York, NY July 25, 2008) — In a letter submitted today, Lambda Legal urges President Bush to end the ban on visitors and immigrants who are HIV positive by signing the President's Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) reauthorization bill.

(New York, NY June 23, 2008) — In letters submitted to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and Rep. John Boehner, House Republican Leader, Lambda Legal urges the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 3195 the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, a bill that clarifies the definition of what qualifies as a disability, to cover anyone who faces unfair discrimination because of a disability.
