The Illinois Senate Executive Committee will hear testimony tomorrow from Lambda Legal clients Mercedes Santos and Theresa Volpe about why having the freedom to marry is important to their family.
Tomorrow, Maine will become the 8th state to grant same-sex couples the freedom to marry – congratulations and well wishes to all of the happy couples and their families who have waited so long.
In commemoration of this historic day, Camilla Taylor, Marriage Project Director for Lambda Legal released the following statement:
During the holiday season we often find ourselves spending time with family and friends. It’s a great chance to catch up with people we may not see very often throughout the year, but it can also mean spending time with people who are not shy about voicing disapproval of same-sex couples who marry or wish to marry.
Yesterday, the California Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed the state’s first openly gay appellate justice. Back in 1979, California Governor Jerry Brown made history when he appointed the first openly gay judge in the United States, Stephen Lachs, to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
