ICE Releases Lambda Legal and Immigration Equality Clients Living with HIV

(Beaumont, TX – May 1, 2020) – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) late yesterday released two asylum seekers living with HIV who were detained at an ICE detention facility in eastern Texas, less than one week after Lambda Legal and Immigration Equality, along with co-counsel Vinson & Elkins, submitted a letter demanding their release. The men were severely persecuted in Cuba because of their political activism and sexual orientation and had been detained in the U.S. since October 2019.

Lambda Legal to 10th Circuit: Colorado Federal District Court Right to Reject Religious License to Discriminate

(Denver, CO, April 30, 2020) – Lambda Legal late yesterday, in a friend-of-the-court brief, urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit to affirm a lower court that denied a Colorado marketing and design firm’s request that it be exempt from the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA) and instead be allowed to refuse website design services to same-sex couples because the owner claims it violates her religion to treat same- and different-sex couples equally.

Lambda Legal Asks Court to Confirm Idaho Anti-Transgender Birth Certificate Law Violates Ruling

(Boise, ID, April 16, 2020) – Lambda Legal today filed a motion with the U.S. District Court to confirm that its March 5, 2018 ruling, which ordered Idaho state officials to allow transgender people born in Idaho to correct the gender markers on their birth certificates to match their gender identity, bars enforcement of the recent bill signed into law by Gov. Brad Little, which reinstates a ban against such corrections by transgender people.
