Civil Rights Leaders Condemn Trump Judicial Nominee Following Discovery Of Inflammatory Audio Recordings

Today, civil rights leaders from across the country condemned the Trump Administration’s nominee for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Gordon Giampietro, after the discovery of two 2015 audio recordings where Mr. Giampietro mocks a Supreme Court justice and calls same-sex marriage “an assault on nature…against God’s plan.”

Federal Court Orders Health Care for Transgender Missouri Inmate

(St. Louis, MO, February 9, 2017) — Today, a federal district court ordered the Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC) and its contracted healthcare provider, Corizon LLC, to immediately provide Jessica Hicklin, a 38-year-old transgender woman incarcerated at the Potosi Correctional Center in Mineral Point, with care that her doctors deem to be medically necessary treatment for her gender dysphoria, including hormone therapy, access to permanent body hair removal, and access to gender-affirming canteen items.

Lambda Legal Warns Alabama School District: Let Lesbian Couple Go to Prom, or Get Sued

(Anniston, AL, February 8, 2018) —Lambda Legal sent a letter to eastern Alabama’s Calhoun County School District today warning school officials not to prevent a lesbian couple from attending the prom amid reports that one of the Alexandria High School juniors had been disciplined for “promposing” to her girlfriend during a school talent show.

Lambda Legal Mourns Passing of Jack Zawadski, Husband of Deceased Gay Man Turned Away by Mississippi Funeral Home

(Picayune, MS, January 31, 2018) – Lambda Legal today announced it will continue its battle against a Picayune, MS, funeral home on behalf of Jack Zawadski, an 82-year-old widower whose family was forced to scramble to find another funeral home to provide services for his husband, Robert “Bob” Huskey, when the funeral home discriminated against them when told they were a married same-sex couple. Zawadski died last month. Lambda Legal today asked the court to substitute Zawadski’s nephew, John Gaspari, for Zawadski in the lawsuit.

Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN Ask Court to Permanently Block Transgender Military Ban

(Seattle, WA, January 25, 2018) – Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN today asked a federal district court to permanently block enforcement of the Trump Administration’s plan to ban transgender people from serving openly in the U.S. Armed Services. The motion for summary judgment filed today in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington follows four U.S. district court rulings and two federal appellate court rulings that granted and preserved preliminary injunctions against enforcement of the ban.
