(Des Moines, April 3, 2009) — Today the Iowa Supreme Court upheld a 2007 district court ruling that said it was unconstitutional to bar same-sex couples from marrying. Iowa becomes the third state along with Massachusetts and Connecticut in offering marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

(Hartford, CT, March 16, 2009) — At the Superior Court in Hartford, Connecticut on Friday, Lambda Legal filed a friend–of–the–court brief seeking to ensure that Connecticut's laws protecting employees from discrimination in the workplace are properly applied to protect gay and lesbian employees against discrimination in the form of harassment and a hostile working environment.

(New York, March 13, 2009) — Today at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Lambda Legal filed a brief arguing that the Court should reject Howard K. Stern's claim that being called gay is defamatory per se and entitles him to collect damages.

(New York, March 4, 2009) — In an announcement issued today by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the antigay Arizona-based Adoption Profiles, LLC and Adoption Media, LLC stopped doing business in New York.

The Attorney General's announcement follows a complaint filed by Lambda Legal on behalf of a New York gay couple barred from posting their on-line adoptive-parent profile by the companies in question solely because they are a same-sex couple. Adoption Profiles, LLC and Adoption Media, LLC were violating New York laws prohibiting such discrimination.

(Detroit, MI, February 20, 2009) — The Michigan State Court of Appeals yesterday held that a Michigan family court cannot refuse to hear a child custody case simply because it involves children whose parents are lesbians, ruling that there is no gay exception to Michigan's child custody laws.

(Birmingham, AL, February 20, 2009) — At the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama late yesterday, Lambda Legal joined a lawsuit on behalf of Central Alabama Pride (CAP) against Mayor Larry Langford who interfered with their right to free speech last summer when he directed city workers to treat the group differently than other groups are treated. 

(Atlanta, GA February 18, 2009) — Lambda Legal yesterday filed an amicus brief in the Georgia Supreme Court arguing that an antigay restriction in a custody arrangement should not stand.
