(Washington, DC, December 7, 2020) – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) today announced a final rule that dramatically expands the ability of federal contractors to claim religious exemptions from federal nondiscrimination and equal employment opportunity laws and regulations. Lambda Legal Director of Law and Policy Jennifer Pizer, issued the following statement:

(Tacoma, WA, November 23, 2020) – Today, Lambda Legal and Sirianni Youtz Spoonemore Hamburger PLLC filed a federal lawsuit challenging Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois’s (“BCBSIL”) administration of a blanket exclusion of gender-affirming care in an employer-provided health insurance plan provided by Catholic Health Initiatives Franciscan.

(New York, NY, November 20, 2020) – The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit today reversed a lower court ruling and struck down local Palm Beach County. Florida, and City of Boca Raton ordinances banning so-called conversion therapy on minors.

The lawsuit challenges West Virginia’s blanket exclusions of coverage of care for transgender people.

(San Francisco, CA, November 3, 2020) – Lambda Legal last night filed a federal lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s recent executive order that prohibits federal contractors and grantees from conducting workplace diversity trainings or engaging in grant-funded work that explicitly acknowledges and confronts the existence of structural racism and sexism in our society.

(RICHMOND, VA AND ATLANTA, GA -- October 27, 2020) – On Monday, two key legal victories on behalf of married same-sex couples and their children became final after the U.S. State Department withdrew its appeal in Kiviti v. Pompeo and decided not to appeal the district court’s decision in Mize-Gregg v. Pompeo. In both cases, federal district courts found the U.S. Department of State’s refusal to recognize the U.S. citizenship of the children born abroad to two married same-sex, U.S. citizen couples to be unlawful.
