(NEW YORK, February 11, 2000) — The Arkansas Circuit Court has ruled that the legal challenge to the state’s 1977 law forbidding certain sex acts between consenting adults of the same sex can go forward, paving the way for seven lesbian and gay Arkansans to finally have their day in court, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said.

This was the third failed attempt by the Arkansas Attorney General and the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney to have the case dismissed.

NEW YORK, February 9, 2000) — A clinic affiliated with the New York Presbyterian Hospital has settled a complaint by a 25-year-old gay man whose doctor made inappropriate references to his sexual orientation in medical records – even placing it on a "Problem List" usually reserved for ailments or diagnoses – while being treated for allergies, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said Wednesday.

(SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, Friday, February 4, 2000) — U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter issued a preliminary injunction today, ordering the Orange Unified School District to allow the Gay-Straight Alliance Club at El Modena High School to meet on school grounds while their case proceeds.

(Albany, N.Y., Wednesday, January 12, 2005) — A New York State appeals court will hear oral argument from Lambda Legal this afternoon on whether the surviving domestic partner of a gay man is entitled to workers’ compensation benefits given to people whose spouses die on the job.

Against the backdrop of a funding debate on public schools in Texas, Representatives Garnet Coleman (D-Houston), Jessica Farrar (D-Houston), and Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) filed a bill on Wednesday that could reform Texas schools in another way. The Dignity for All Students Act, HB 376, would protect students in Texas public schools from discrimination based on such things as race, religion, and sexual orientation.
