Lambda Legal Blasts the California Medical Association for Hypocrisy

(Los Angeles, June 3, 2005) — In legal papers filed today Lambda Legal urged a California state appeals court to reject the half truths put forth in a friend-of-the-court brief by the California Medical Association that would allow doctors to discriminate against patients based on the doctors’ religious views. The case at hand involves a woman who was denied fertility treatment by her Southern California health care providers because she is a lesbian.

Lambda Appeals Against Sheriff in Brandon Teena Murder

(NEW YORK, February 2, 2000) — Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund Wednesday announced that it will litigate the Nebraska appeal of a meager trial court award against a county whose sheriff failed to protect Brandon Teena from a brutal 1993 murder.

This year’s popular film,“Boys Don’t Cry” and documentary, “The Brandon Teena Story,” chronicle Brandon’s life and tragic death. Born female and named Teena Brandon, he was living as a man in Falls City, Nebraska, when he was murdered at age 21.

Louisiana Appeals Court to Hear Oral Arguments Monday in Lambda Legal's Case Defending City of New Orleans Same-Sex Domestic Partner Registry and Benefits Policy

(New Orleans, January 26, 2005) – In oral arguments set for Monday, January 31, at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, Lambda Legal will fight off an attack by an antigay group seeking to end the City of New Orleans’ policy extending health insurance benefits to domestic partners of its gay and lesbian workers as well as the city’s domestic partner registry.

Lambda to Sue Reno School Officials for Failing to Protect Gay Student

(LOS ANGELES, January 27, 2000) — Opening a new front in the struggle to stop widespread mistreatment of lesbian and gay students in public schools, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said Thursday that it is suing school administrators in Reno, Nevada, for allowing years of merciless abuse to drive a gay student from completing high school.

Gay-Straight Student Club Seeks Injunction Against School Officials

(Orange, CA, January 21, 2000) – To win equal treatment and recognition of their Gay-Straight Alliance club, students from El Modena High School will ask a federal judge for a preliminary injunction ordering Orange County school officials to allow the student group to meet and have equal access to school facilities as its lawsuit continues.

On Monday, January 24, attorneys for the students will argue the motion before United States District Judge David O. Carter. The students’ parents and attorneys will speak with reporters following the hearing.

In Oral Argument at Pennsylvania Superior Court on Tuesday, Lambda Legal Will Fight for Lesbian Mom Seeking Long-Overdue Visitation with Her Child

(Pittsburg, February 3, 2005) — Lambda Legal will go back to the Pennsylvania Superior Court on Tuesday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m. to argue that a lower court was wrong to deny a lesbian mother visitation with her child after her ex-partner (the child’s biological mother) worked to alienate the child from her.
