(CHICAGO, February 10, 1998) -- Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund and the City of Chicago on Tuesday won a final trial court ruling against efforts to block domestic partner benefits, including health insurance, for partners of lesbian and gay city workers.

Judge Thomas Durkin in Cook County Circuit Court granted judgment in favor of the City and a number of its lesbian and gay employees, whom Lambda represented. The Judge upheld the law, which went into effect in May.

(Seattle, July 26, 2006) — The Washington State Supreme Court issued a 5–4 ruling against couples represented by Lambda Legal and the Northwest Women’s Law Center in a case seeking marriage for same-sex couples.

Two cases were decided today — Andersen v. King County in which the eight couples are represented by Lambda Legal and the Northwest Women's Law Center and Castle v. State whose 11 couples are represented by the ACLU of Washington.

ST. LOUIS — In legal papers filed today, Lambda Legal and the American Civil Liberties Union will ask a federal appeals court to reconsider its July 14th ruling upholding an extreme Nebraska law that bans all protections for same-sex couples.

(Chicago, August 11, 2006) — Lambda Legal staff attorney James P. Madigan comments on today’s ruling by the Illinois State Board of Elections that it will not certify an antigay statewide advisory referendum opposing marriage and relationship rights for same-sex couples for the Fall ballot in Illinois because it lacked required popular support. Referendum supporters continue to pursue a federal appeal to have Illinois requirements declared unconstitutional.
