Unprecedented Business, Scholarly Support for Lambda Legal Supreme Court Push to End Sexual Orientation Employment Discrimination

(Washington, October 11, 2017) – Today 76 businesses, legal scholars and the nation’s leading LGBT rights organizations joined Lambda Legal in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to finally decide whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits sexual orientation discrimination on the job.

Legal Advocates Urge Supreme Court to Strike Down Anti-LGBT Mississippi Law

(Jackson, October 10, 2017) —Mississippi plaintiffs led by civil rights attorney Rob McDuff, along with Mississippi Center for Justice and Lambda Legal, today urged the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down Mississippi House Bill 1523, the discriminatory anti-LGBT legislation that takes effect today. Joining in the appeal to the Supreme Court are former U.S. Solicitor General Don Verrilli and attorney Paul Smith, who co-counseled with Lambda Legal and argued the landmark case of Lawrence v. Texas, which declared laws criminalizing same-sex relationships to be unconstitutional.

Lambda Legal Continues Fight on Behalf of Intersex Citizen Denied a U.S. Passport

(Denver, CO, October 10, 2017) – Lambda Legal returned to federal court today on behalf of Dana Zzyym, an intersex citizen and U.S. Navy veteran denied a passport because the U.S. State Department refuses to recognize a gender marker that is neither male nor female.

Governor Signs Bill Modernizing California HIV Laws

(Sacramento, CA – Oct. 6, 2017)—Governor Jerry Brown today signed into law landmark legislation to reform outdated laws that unfairly criminalized and stigmatized people living with HIV. Senate Bill (SB) 239 was authored by Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Asm. Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) and cosponsored by Lambda Legal, Equality California, the ACLU of California, APLA Health, Black AIDS Institute, and Positive Women’s Network – USA.

Lambda Legal Urges Full Second Circuit to Protect LGBT People from Discrimination at Work

Lambda Legal Welcomes State of Washington to Lawsuit in Support of Transgender Military Service Members

(SEATTLE, September 25, 2017) – The state of Washington today filed a motion to intervene in support of the plaintiffs in Karnoski v. Trump, the federal lawsuit filed last month by Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN challenging the constitutionality of the Trump administration’s ban on military service by transgender individuals. Washington becomes the first state to intervene in one of the lawsuits challenging the discriminatory ban. Lambda Legal Senior Attorney Peter Renn issued the following statement:
