Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN: We Will Sue in a Heartbeat if Tweet Becomes Policy

(New York City, July 26, 2017) – Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN today promised to take immediate legal action to protect transgender service members and recruits should President Donald Trump follow through on his early morning tweet threatening to ban transgender military service.

Lambda Legal and ACLU Challenge Fake Repeal of North Carolina’s Discriminatory HB 2

(Raleigh, July 21 2017) - Today, Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and ACLU of North Carolina announced they have taken steps to expand the federal lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s sweeping anti-LGBT law HB 2 to include a challenge to its discriminatory replacement, HB 142, which left many of the harms caused by HB 2 in place.  The advocacy groups also added two LGBT North Carolinians to the case.

(Washington D.C, July 20, 2017) - Today, the United States Senate confirmed John Kenneth Bush to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in a 51 to 47 vote, along party lines. Bush’s writings and statements throughout his career in regards to fundamental rights have illustrated contempt for the rights of LGBT Americans, women, and all people living with HIV.

Lambda Legal Brings Together 27 National LGBT Groups Urging the Senate to Oppose the Confirmations of John K. Bush and Damien Schiff to the Federal Bench, Citing ‘Grave Threat’ Both Nominees Pose to LGBT Americans

Washington, DC – Today, Lambda Legal and 26 other national LGBT groups urged the Senate to oppose the confirmations of John K. Bush to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and Damien Schiff to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, citing public statements and writings from both nominees and their repeated demonstration of “contempt for the rights of LGBT Americans, people living with HIV, women, and other vulnerable populations.”

Lambda Legal Applauds Re-Introduction of Do No Harm Act

(Los Angeles, July 13, 2017) — Today, U.S. Reps. Joseph Kennedy (D-MA), Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) and more than 50 co-sponsors re-introduced the Do No Harm Act, a long-overdue correction to the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which amends the law to clarify that it does not permit the use of religion to discriminate, impose religious beliefs, deny others specified goods or services, or inflict dignitary or other harm on others.

Lambda Legal Readies for U.S. Supreme Court after Full Eleventh Circuit Denies Georgia Anti-Gay Employment Discrimination Case

(Atlanta July 6, 2017) –Today, Lambda Legal announced it will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit denied its en banc petition asking that the full Court rehear the case of Jameka Evans, a security guard who was harassed at work and effectively terminated from her job because she is a lesbian and doesn’t conform to gender norms in her appearance and demeanor.

Texas Supreme Court Distorts Obergefell to Revive Attacks on Marriages of Same-Sex Couples: Lambda Legal Will Work with Houston Attorneys to Defend Marriage

(Austin, TX, June 30, 2017) — The Texas Supreme Court today defied the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges which ushered in the freedom to marry for same-sex couples nationwide, saying it leaves open questions whether Texas municipalities must extend access to spousal benefits including health insurance to the legal same-sex spouses of municipal employees in the same way it does for other married employees. The ruling revives a case that was dead and sends it back to the trial court to give the parties another chance to attack the marriage of same-sex couples.

Lambda Legal Sues Jacksonville School District for Discriminating Against Transgender Student

(Jacksonville, June 28, 2017) —Lambda Legal today filed a federal discrimination lawsuit in the Middle District of Florida against the St. Johns County School Board in St. Augustine, FL, near Jacksonville, on behalf of Drew Adams, a 16-year-old boy, who is being denied access to the boys’ restroom because he is transgender.
