Integrity of Iowa Courts Persists, says Equality Groups

(Des Moines, IA, January 16, 2013) - Today, Iowa State Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady delivered the State of the Judiciary address in Des Moines. Together, this coalition has worked towards full equality for LGBT people and their families, have fought to preserve Iowa's proud tradition of fair and impartial courts, and have countered against any attempts to politicize our courts through public education and advocacy. Lambda Legal Defends Inmate's Right to Sue US Government for Sexual Assault by Prison Officer

(New York, December 10, 2012) — Late Friday, Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court  brief  in the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a federal prison inmate, Kim Millbrook, who sued the U.S. government after claiming he was sexually assaulted by prison officers at the Lewisburg, Pennsylvania federal penitentiary.

Iowa Supreme Court Hears Lambda Legal Case Seeking Accurate Birth Certificate for Lesbian Mothers

(Des Moines, IA, December 11, 2012) - Today the Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Lambda Legal's lawsuit seeking to compel the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) to provide an accurate birth certificate to all children born to same-sex married parents in Iowa.

Supreme Court Holds Action on Arizona State Employees Case and Remaining DOMA Challenges

(San Francisco, December 10, 2012) - The U.S. Supreme Court issued no new orders today in the remaining LGBT rights cases on its docket in the wake of its decision Friday to review the Prop 8 challenge and one of four cases challenging the constitutionality of the federal so-called Defense of Marriage Act. US Supreme Court to Hear Prop 8 and DOMA Cases

(Washington, December 7, 2012) - The U.S. Supreme Court today announced it has granted review in two of the cases concerning same-sex couples: Windsor v. United States, the challenge to Section 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) on behalf of Edie Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry  the historic decision by the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declaring California's discriminatory Proposition 8 unconstitutional.
