(Des Moines, IA, January 16, 2013) - Today, Iowa State Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady delivered the State of the Judiciary address in Des Moines. Together, this coalition has worked towards full equality for LGBT people and their families, have fought to preserve Iowa's proud tradition of fair and impartial courts, and have countered against any attempts to politicize our courts through public education and advocacy. In response to his remarks, equality groups One Iowa and Lambda Legal's Fair Courts Project issued the following statements:

(New York, January 14, 2013) - This year Lambda Legal celebrates its 40th year of making change for LGBT people and people living with HIV. Lambda Legal issued the following statement from Kevin Cathcart, Executive Director of Lambda Legal:

"Reaching 40 is quite a milestone. At Lambda Legal, we feel strong and vibrant, and we're working to make change every day.

Lambda Legal has been named the top organization among national LGBT equality and support organizations in a new ranking released by Guidestar's Philanthropedia.

The Wisconsin Court of Appeals has upheld as constitutional the state's Domestic Partner Registry.

In the wake of the announcement by key legislators that they will seek passage of an Illinois marriage equality bill in January 2013, a broad range of organizations have joined to form a new coalition, called Illinois Unites for Marriage.

(New York, December 10, 2012) — Late Friday, Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court  brief  in the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a federal prison inmate, Kim Millbrook, who sued the U.S. government after claiming he was sexually assaulted by prison officers at the Lewisburg, Pennsylvania federal penitentiary.

Heather Steans announced that they will call for a vote early in 2013 on House Bill 5710, The Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act. (Des Moines, IA, December 11, 2012) - Today the Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Lambda Legal's lawsuit seeking to compel the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) to provide an accurate birth certificate to all children born to same-sex married parents in Iowa.

(San Francisco, December 10, 2012) - The U.S. Supreme Court issued no new orders today in the remaining LGBT rights cases on its docket in the wake of its decision Friday to review the Prop 8 challenge and one of four cases challenging the constitutionality of the federal so-called Defense of Marriage Act. Two Lambda Legal cases remain on the docket: Brewer v. Diaz and U.S. Office of Personnel Management v Golinski.  Jon Davidson, Legal Director for Lambda Legal, issued the following statement:

(Washington, December 7, 2012) - The U.S. Supreme Court today announced it has granted review in two of the cases concerning same-sex couples: Windsor v. United States, the challenge to Section 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) on behalf of Edie Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry  the historic decision by the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declaring California's discriminatory Proposition 8 unconstitutional.
