(NEW YORK, March 5, 2002) — For its 16th annual Liberty Awards, Lambda Legal honors Mark Bingham, whose courage in the face of death saved lives on September 11, the award-winning television documentary series “In The Life,” and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and novelist Anna Quindlen.


On Monday, May 6, Lambda Legal will have its 16th annual Liberty Awards gala dinner at The Regent, 55 Wall Street from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Mark Bingham’s mother, Alice Hoglan, will be present to accept his posthumous award.

U.S. Supreme Court to Hear Argument in Another Test for ADA

(NEW YORK) —Lambda Legal, on behalf of the American Public Health Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, and several hepatitis-C education associations, is asking the United States Supreme Court to reject an employer’s argument that, under the ADA, it can fire a healthy worker with signs of liver disease because it considers chemical exposure on the job dangerous to his future health.

Lambda Legal Files Ethics Complaint Against Alabama Chief Justice

 

(ATLANTA, Wednesday, February 20, 2002) — Lambda Legal on Wednesday filed a formal complaint with the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission and called for a full investigation of state Chief Justice Roy Moore, saying he is unfit because of his shockingly prejudiced statements against gay people in a recent legal opinion.

New lawsuit charges Methodist Children's Home uses tax dollars to discriminate in employment and to indoctrinate foster youth in religion

(Atlanta and New York Thursday, August 1, 2002) - A new lawsuit challenging public funding of a religious organization was filed yesterday in Georgia, charging the United Methodist Children's Home (the Home) in Decatur with using state tax dollars to discriminate in employment and to indoctrinate foster youth in religion. Seven Georgia taxpayers, including a lesbian youth counselor and a Jewish psychotherapist who were denied the right to work at the Home for religious reasons, are filing the lawsuit to stop Georgia from funding the Home unless it changes its practices.
