John Ashcroft is Not Qualified to Be Attorney General






(NEW YORK, January 12, 2001) — The nation’s largest and oldest legal organization dedicated to gay civil rights issued a statement Friday opposing John Ashcroft’s nomination as United States Attorney General, pointing to the former Missouri senator’s record of bias against lesbians and gay men and the equality of many other Americans.

Damages in Boys Dont Cry Murder Argued Before Nebraska Supreme Court

(NEW YORK, January 11, 2001) - Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is urging Nebraska's highest court to hold a Richardson County sheriff more accountable for his failure to protect a rape victim, who was raped and later killed because of his gender identity. Born female and named Teena Brandon, the victim was living as a man in Falls City, Nebraska, when he was murdered at age 21.

LAMBDA ISSUES 2000 WORLD AIDS DAY REPORT CARD

(NEW YORK, November 27, 2000) — Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, with its fifth annual World AIDS Day report card, handed out dunce caps to Texas’ top health official and the New York Catholic diocese’s new bishop for their failures in responding to the AIDS epidemic.

Top grades this year went to a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter, several lawmakers in California, New Jersey and New York, and activists including a crusading nun who operates the largest online database of AIDS resources.

Washington's Highest Court to Hear Case of Man Facing Loss of Home

(LOS ANGELES, October 12, 2000) — The Washington Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of a man seeking to retain his home and business following the death of his partner of nearly 30 years, said Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund Thursday.


“This is an important case for lesbian and gay families, who deserve the same protections available to other couples when one partner dies without a legal will,” said Jennifer C. Pizer, managing attorney for Lambda’s Western Regional Office.
