Lambda Releases Internet Resource to End University Discrimination

(NEW YORK, July 18, 2000) — Bolstering the battle against discrimination and harassment on campus, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund Tuesday announced a new publication to help secure school policies that ban bias based on sexual orientation, protecting students plus faculty, administrators and other employees.

Louisiana Supreme Court Upholds 195-Year Old Sex Ban

(NEW YORK, June 28, 2000) — A divided United States Supreme Court on Monday held that the Boy Scouts of America can discriminate against a gay scoutmaster, blunting the decade-long legal challenge to the group’s anti-gay policy that Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund has waged on behalf of decorated Eagle Scout James Dale.

U.S. Supreme Court Overturns New Jersey Rejection of Gay Boy Scout Ban

(NEW YORK, June 28, 2000) —The United States Supreme Court, in a disappointing decision Wednesday, overturned the New Jersey Supreme Court’s unanimous decision that denied the Boy Scouts of America an exemption from that state’s anti-discrimination law in order to bar gay members.

Deprived of Home and Property, Man Appeals to Washington's Highest Court

Long-Time Litigator in Lesbian, Gay Civil Rights Leaves Lambda Legal Defense

California Department of Industrial Relations Vindicates Lesbian Teacher

(LOS ANGELES, June 20, 2000) — Another California school district has been ordered to stop transferring students from a gay teacher’s classroom because such action is a form of employment discrimination, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said Tuesday.


The California Department of Industrial Relations (CDIR) upheld an earlier administrative ruling against Hemet Unified School District for granting a parent’s request to remove a high school student from a tenth grade English class because the teacher is a lesbian.

Insurance Company Rebuffed for Denying Benefits to Policyholders with AIDS

(LOS ANGELES, June 19, 2000) — The California Supreme Court Monday unanimously ruled that insurers cannot deny benefits to policyholders who develop AIDS several years after becoming insured, a practice that is widespread in the industry but which the Court said is illegal, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund said.
