Lambda Legal Files Class Action in Florida Seeking Accurate Death Certificates for Surviving Same-Sex Spouses

(Miami) – Today, Lambda Legal filed a federal class action lawsuit in the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Tallahassee Division on behalf Hal Birchfield and Paul Mocko, two gay widowers, and other Florida same-sex spouses in similar situations, who are seeking accurate death certificates for their deceased spouses that acknowledge they were married and recognize them as the surviving spouses.

New Blood Donation Policy Does Not Go Far Enough, Lambda Legal Says

(Washington) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced new guidelines for blood donations that change the current lifetime ban for men who have sex with men (MSM) to a one-year ban. The guidelines also make clear that transgender individuals may self-report their gender for purposes of applying the MSM policy.

Lambda Legal Condemns Police Violence, Stands With Chicago Community

(Chicago, November 25, 2015) —Yesterday, the city of Chicago was left reeling after the release of a brutally violent video showing the killing of Laquan McDonald, a 17-year-old Black teenager who was shot 16 times by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke in October 2014. Van Dyke was charged with First Degree Murder yesterday after a Cook County judge ordered the release of a Chicago Police Department dashcam video showing the shooting. Lambda Legal Commends Pennsylvania School District for Rejecting Discriminatory Policy

(November 19, 2015,) – Last night, the Northwestern Lehigh school board in New Tripoli, PA announced that it would continue its current practice to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and single-sex facilities that match their gender identity. The Board explicitly rejected efforts by the anti-LGBT Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) to implement policies that would discriminate against transgender students.  

Lambda Legal Settles Lawsuit on Behalf of Gay Couple Kicked Out of Taxi

(Chicago, IL, November 19, 2015) — Today, Lambda Legal settled a lawsuit filed on behalf of two gay men who were unlawfully forced to exit a taxi after they exchanged a brief kiss. As part of the voluntary settlement, the driver of the taxi has apologized to the men and has agreed to make a donation to a local LGBT-focused charity, the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance.
