Victory! Kentucky Supreme Court Unanimously Affirms Lesbian Mother’s Right to Custody Petition in Lambda Legal Case

(Lexington, KY) – Today, in a unanimous decision, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that Lambda Legal client, Amy H., a lesbian mother, will have her day in court to petition for joint custody of her daughter.

Lambda Legal Urges Supreme Court to Reject Argument that Religious Belief Trumps Equal Access to Health Care

(Washington D. C.) —Yesterday, Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in Zubik v. Burwell and six related cases urging the Court to reject arguments made by religiously affiliated nonprofit organizations who argue that it burdens their religious beliefs simply to notify the federal government that they are opting out of providing their employees insurance coverage for contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Lambda Legal Warns South Carolina School District that Transgender Student Suspension Could Lead to Lawsuit

(Myrtle Beach, February 17, 2016) — Lambda Legal sent a letter to the Horry County School District today urging school officials to reverse their decision to suspend a transgender student and to adopt inclusive bathroom policies that respect the gender identities of its students and are in line with federal law, after news reports that a transgender student was suspended from Socastee High School for using the bathroom that matches his gender identity.

South Dakota Legislature Passes Discriminatory Bill Targeting Transgender Students; Lambda Legal Urges Governor to Veto

(Pierre, South Dakota, February 16, 2016) – Today the South Dakota Senate passed House Bill 1008, a discriminatory bill that prevents transgender students from accessing restrooms and single-sex facilities that correspond with their gender identity.

Lambda Legal Hails Nomination of First Openly Lesbian Chief Justice in the Country to Puerto Rico Supreme Court

Lambda Legal Sues North Carolina Hospital That Denied Health Coverage to Employee’s Same-Sex Spouse

Lambda Legal filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Asheville Division, seeking compensation for Sandra Lively, a registered nurse at North Carolina hospital Park Ridge Health, for the thousands of dollars of expenses she incurred when the hospital refused to allow her to enroll her same-sex spouse in the employee health plan.

Victory for Fair Courts! Ninth Circuit Upholds Arizona Judicial Conduct Code
